William Earl Lawson, 83, of Paducah, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 4:35 p.m. at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation.
He was born in Paducah on March 4, 1930, to Claude and Carrie Lawson. He attended Symsonia High School and enlisted in the United States Army prior to the Korean War. A devoted member who loved his church, Bill participated in the Methodist men and later, the OWLS group at church. In the early ’60s he was a member of the Lions Club. He was employed in marketing telephone systems and retired after working over twenty-nine years for Bellsouth Communications. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers group. Throughout his life he enjoyed golfing and bowling and was an avid college basketball fan, especially the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
He is survived by his sons, Phil and wife Becky Lawson and Heath Lawson, all of Paducah; his brothers, Claude Jr. and Garland Lawson, both of Paducah; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Freeman Lawson; his parents, Claude and Carrie Easter Lawson; one sister; and three brothers.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Reidland United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Clark’s River Baptist Church Cemetery in Symsonia. Rev. David Garrett will officiate.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at the church.
