GRAND RIVERS — Vernon C. Curtis, 69, of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 6:40 a.m. at his home after a four-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family who will miss him dearly.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at First United Methodist Church, 211 North School Street, Normal, Ill., with the Rev. Scott Carnes officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He was born September 27, 1943, in Bloomington, the son of Vernon R. and Elizabeth Seth Curtis. Vernon married Kathy Jo Anderson on June 16, 1974, at the First United Methodist Church in Normal. They just celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary, and she survives in Grand Rivers.
Also surviving are his mother, Elizabeth Curtis of Normal; three daughters, Jennifer (Chad) Deschane of Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Kim (Travis) Miller of Pendleton, Ind., and Missy Amburgey of Indianapolis, Ind.; a son, Todd (Lisa) Curtis of Pendleton, Ind.; a sister, Lois (Jim) Sorensen of Joplin, Mo.; a brother, Jim (Kathy) Curtis of Broomfield, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Dade Deschane, Felisha (Kyle) Doucette, Taylor Curtis, Branson Curtis, Dallas Miller, Tommy Amburgey and Jordan Amburgey; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Jasmine Doucette. Vernon loved family get-togethers with his many nieces and nephews as well.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon R. Curtis.
Vernon graduated from Normal Community High School in 1961 and retired in 1998 after working at Xerox Corporation for 35 years.
Vernon was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.
He was a member of the Whitetail Bow Hunters when he lived in Bloomington.
Vernon’s family would like to thank all of their family and friends for their continued love, support and prayers.
