BENTON — John Rendek, 84, of Benton and Kansas City, Kan., died at 8:55 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2013, at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
He was the first basketball coach at Christian County High School. He later coached at Owensboro Catholic, Louisville Male and the University of Tulsa. He was a business owner in Olathe, Kan. He was a member of the KHSAA and Christian County High School halls of fame. He was of Catholic faith and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by two sons, Steve Rendek of Houston and Tom Rendek of Murray; four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Drinkard) Rendek; one brother, and two sisters. His parents were Steve and Rose Rendek.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2013, at Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home in Murray with the Revs. Jason McClure and Bob Rogers officiating. Burial will be later in Kansas City, Kan. Friends may visit from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
