Ralph C. Pickard
Mr. Ralph C. Pickard, 94 of Mayfield, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. He was a retired assistant commissioner for environmental health in Kentucky and Indiana, a civil engineering degree from the University of Kentucky in 1942, he received his masters degree from the University of Michigan in Public Health in 1947. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mayfield.
Mr. Pickard won the Public Works Man of the Year Award in 1970 from the American Public Works Association, he won the NSF International Walter Snyder Award in 1972, he received the Arthur Sidney Bedell Award from the Water Pollution Control Federation in 1969; he was inducted into the Kentucky-Tennessee Water Pollution Control Association Hall of Fame in 1991; and the National Clay Pipe Institute Distinguished Service Award in 1965.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Pickard; one son, Ralph C. (Amy Bugg) Pickard Jr. of Mayfield; one daughter, Pamela (Michael) Malast of Paducah; four grandchildren, Allison (Daniel) Thompson, James Pickard Malast, Coleman Seigle Pickard, and Clayton James Pickard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Coleman and Mary Carman Pickard; and three brothers, Noble, Voris, and James Pickard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield with the Rev. David Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 26. Pallbearers will be: Henry P. Hargrove, James W. Hargrove, James “Al” Pickard, David Pickard, Kenneth Keel, and James P. Malast.
