CAIRO, Ill. — Sister Jeanette C. Schutte, PHJC, 89, of Cairo died Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was a member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cairo. She received her master’s degree in theology from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame. She worked in Gary, Ind., St. Boniface and St. Mary’s in Edwardsville, East Chicago and Chicago, St. Mary’s in Carlisle, St. Mary’s in Mount Carmel and the Kitchen Table in Cairo for 17 years, working in education and social work. She was with the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ for 60 years.
She is survived by a sister, Marilyn Burgtorf, and a nephew, Mark Burgtorf, both of Quincy, and her Sisters in the Poor Handmaids community.
Her parents were Walter and Bertha Hackman Schutte.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Church in Cairo with memorial services at 7 p.m. celebrated by Chris Mujule and the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Ancilla Domini Convent in Donaldson, Ind., with memorial services at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Convent. Interment will be at Mount Carmel Cemetery on the Convent grounds.
Barkett Funeral Home of Cairo and Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home in Plymouth, Ind., are in charge of arrangements.
