MARION, Ill. — Charles A. Smith, 74 of Marion, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family at 1:25 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Third Baptist Church in Marion. Burial will be held later that afternoon at Metropolis Memorial Gardens. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held at Third Baptist Church from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2013. Memorial donations are suggested to either Third Baptist Church of Marion or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Charles was born in Massac County on October 10, 1938, to Lloyd and Theodora (Moll) Smith. He married Linda Hausman in Metropolis on May 15, 1960.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Linda of Marion; his children, Todd A. and Jan Smith of Tallahassee, Fla., Trent D. Smith of Omaha, Neb., and Tyler W. Smith and friend Dee Heller, both of Marion; his grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Connor Smith, Cory Smith and Kellen Smith; his siblings, Virginia Black, Lula and Charles Dickson, Earl and Gloria Smith, Verl Smith, Frances Goins and Barbara Rohrer.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lavern Smith, Iva Hines and Carl Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member and deacon of Third Baptist Church in Marion. He was on the board of directors for Sons of the Father Ministry. Charles coached Little League baseball, showing great enthusiasm for the sport. He started his career at Bonifield Brothers Trucking Company, and ended it in the same field, as an operations management supervisor for Conway Freight Company. He will be missed.
