Albert Einstein, a famous German physicist, was born March 14, 1879. In fact, Einstein was considered the leading theoretical physicist of the 20th century. He received the Nobel Prize for physics in 1921. This prize is an award given to people judged to be the best in their fields.
When the Nazi government in 1933 confiscated his property, taking away his life as he knew it and deprived him of his German citizenship, Einstein immigrated or moved to the United States. He became a naturalized citizen.
Einstein warned U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt that the German government was developing an atomic bomb. Soon after, he worked with the United States on creating its own atomic bomb during World War II.
In the U.S., Einstein worked at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, where he stayed until he died in 1955. Because he was so smart some people today think that his name “Einstein” is the same as saying “genius.” For example, Terry is an Einstein at solving math problems.”
