BURNA — Mr. Sunnie Jim Belt, 76, of Burna, Ky., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Lourdes hospital in Paducah, Ky.

Mr. Belt was a graduate of Salem High School where he was a four year member of the baseball team, which went to the state tournament four years in a row. He was a 50 year member of Carrsville Masonic Lodge in Carrsville, Ky. Mr. Belt owned, co-owned with his son Jim, and operated several businesses in the Lola and Burna areas. A few of these were Lola Gulf; Burna Gulf; Burna BP; Belts Trucking; Burna Propane; and Belt’s Auto Sales, just to name a few. Sunnie Jim worked side by side with his wife Doris in all of these businesses over a 50 year period. Mr. Belt was also an avid fan of both University of Kentucky Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball. He attended Hampton United Methodist Church.

Mr. Belt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris (Croft) Belt; two children, Janet McGregor and her husband Larry, and Jim Belt and his wife Lisa, both of Burna, Ky.; one brother, Harold Belt and his wife Bernice of Paducah, Ky.; his mother-in-law, Casadeen Croft of Burna, Ky.; his brother-in-law, Dwayne Croft and his wife Nancy of Marion, Ky.; special sister-in-law, Jill Fay of Burna, Ky.; one grandson, Chad McGregor and his wife Jennifer of Burna, Ky.; three granddaughters, Danielle Lane and her husband James of Nashville, Tenn., Erica Fondaw and her husband Brandon of Burna, Ky., and Sunni McGregor and Cody Ogg of Burna, Ky.; four great-grandchildren, Reyann McGregor, Raven McGregor, Chloe McGregor, and Victoria Joiner; special nieces, Teresa Beavers and her husband Ronnie of Marion, Ky., and Kelsey Pierce of Burna, Ky., Maranda Williams and her husband Drew of Central City, Ky.; one nephew, Anthony Wilson, and several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Mark Croft; a father-in-law, John L. Croft; and his parents, Barney C. “Wort” Belt and Muriel Curnel Belt.

A celebration of Sunnie’s life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem, with the Rev’s. Chuck Ladd and Mike Atkins officiating.

Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem.

Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m.
