SMITHLAND — Mrs. Charlotte Ann Day, 72, of Smithland, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013, at Mercy Sacred Heart Village in Louisville.
Mrs. Day was born in the Berry’s Ferry Community October 4, 1940, to Etrick and Nola Clark May.
Ann worked beside her husband, Sheriff Jack Day, as a sheriff’s deputy in her early years, and helped establish the DARE program in Livingston County Schools. Ann also worked as a nurse for many years at Salem Hospital and several other hospitals in the area, as well as working in the doctors office of Dr. Roscoe Faulkner. Ann finished her career as a nurse practitioner with Drs. Barnes, Gavin, and Yazigi at Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services.
Ann had several personal interests including history, and travel in the United States and internationally. Ann was active in the Trail of Tears Association and helped to secure designation of the Mantle Rock area as the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail.
Ann is survived by her son, David Day of Lexington and Livingston County; one sister, Marilyn Nichols of Louisville; one niece, Suzanne Lorenz of West Lafayette, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Doris Kiebler of Paducah; and numerous nephews and nieces from her husband’s side of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, former Livingston County Sheriff Jack Day; a sister, Genevieve May; her parents, Etrick and Nola Clark May; her grandparents, Paul and Bertha May and John and Georgia Clark. From her husband’s side of the family she was preceded in death by her sisters-in-laws, Peggy Schade and Ella Mae Hardin.
Funeral services will be Monday, February 11, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem, the Rev. Mike Grimes officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 10, 2013, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem.
