Jerry W. Carder, 72, of Paducah, died at 12:08 a.m. February 8, 2013, at Baptist Health Paducah.
Mr. Carder had retired from United Parcel Service and he was a member of Milburn Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Jerry was an avid golfer and loved to travel. He started playing guitar when he was three years old and loves it just as much now as he did then. He played in several bands including the Ray Smith Band, Everyday People, Just Friends, The Expressway Band and many more. Country music was his passion and most still know him as “Conway Carder.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Gail B. Carder; father, Tom Carder and Myrtle Slack; four daughters, Terri Johnson and husband Dale of Boaz, Cindy Cruse and husband Steven of Boaz, Laura Thompson and husband Marshall of Paducah, and Lindsey Carder and Dustin Lynn of Paducah; one son, Tim Carder and wife Angie of Boaz; two sisters, Kay Bowman, of Bardwell and Sonya Mainord of Arlington; one brother, Bobby Carder of Paducah; six grandchildren, David Cruse, Chase Johnson, Hunter Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Tristen Henson, and Jessie Carder; two great-grandchildren, Alison Cruse, Oliver Cruse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Dublin Sams; his father, Lindsey Oben Sams; and one brother, Ricky Sams.
A memorial service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Paul Tucker officiating. Visitation for Mr. Carder will be 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday, February, 11, 2013, at the funeral home.
