MAYFIELD — John Steven Carter, 37, of Mayfield, Ky., passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013, at his home.

He was a self-employed pet groomer. He was a volunteer and former chief of the Volunteer Fire Department of Folsomdale, Ky. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Carter is survived by his partner, Steven E. Whitman of Mayfield; his mother, Joyce Grooms (David) Oakes of Paducah; his father, Johnny Day Carter of Benton; his grandmother, Treva Carter of Dallas, Texas; his stepmother, Sally Huie Carter of Paducah; his sister, Tracey D. McClain of Mayfield, and his brother, Robert Day Carter of Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ralph and Annie Grooms, and grandfather, Billy Dean Carter.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Byrn Funeral Home of Mayfield, Ky., is in charge of the arrangements.
