BENTON — Mr. Taz A. Nelson, 90, of Benton, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at Calvert City Convalescent Center in Calvert City.
Born Wednesday, September 6, 1922, in Marshall County (Brewers Community), he was the son of the late Enos Alexander “Lex” Nelson and the late Francis Zora “Ethel” (York) Nelson. He was the husband of the late Mary Lou (Littlejohn) Nelson.
He served his country during World War II in the United States Army, where he served in the 99th Infantry (99th Checker board) during the Battle of the Bulge and the occupation forces in Europe.
He was a retired electrician working for National Carbide and B. F. Goodrich in Calvert City, and was a member of Zion’s Cause Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, Steven Taz Nelson and wife Cheryl of Lumberton, Texas; one daughter, Terri Bailey and husband Lee of Benton; five grandchildren, Joshua Lee Bailey and Jonathan Nelson Bailey, both of Calvert City, Daniel Taz Nelson and Luke Olen Nelson, both of Lumberton, Texas, and Emily Nicotre and husband Troy of Port Neches, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Mindy Ann Nicotre of Port Neches, Texas.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Nelson, Robert Nelson, Loyd Nelson, Marvin Nelson, and Milburn Nelson; and sisters, Lois Clutts and Sue Darnall.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Collier Funeral Home in Benton with the Rev. Dr. Charles Frazier and Rev. Richard Edmiston officiating.
Interment with military honors will follow the service in Marshall County Memory Gardens in Benton. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Collier Funeral Home in Benton.
