Harriet Freed, age 88, of Paducah, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Western Baptist Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Harriet had worked as a medical transcriptionist.
In 1978, at age 54, she received her B.A. Degree from Rutgers University, and earned her Master’s Degree in 1984 from New School for Social Research, New York, N.Y. Harriet was also a member of the Temple Israel of Paducah.
Harriet is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joshua Freed; her three sons, Jonathan Freed, and his wife Patti of Paducah, David Freed, and his wife Beth of Redondo Beach, California, and Dr. Benjamin Z. Freed, and his wife, Rose Anne of Lexington, Ky.; along with five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother. Her parents were Frank and Bessie Mandelbaum.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York, with Dr. Jack Berger officiating. Arrangements in New York are being handled by the Weinstein, Garlick, Kirschenbaum Funeral Home in Brooklyn, New York.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the McCracken County Public Library, 555 Washington St., Paducah, KY 42003.
There will be no visitation. The Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of local arrangements.
