WATER VALLEY — James Ruble Carter, 90, of Water Valley died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Arbor Place of Clinton.

He was a truck driver and heavy-equipment operator for the former McDade Construction Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II as a military police officer, and was a member of American Legion Post 72 in Fulton. He attended Water Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Mae Carter; two daughters, Wanda Wilson of Mayfield and Rita Cude of Wingo; one son, Brent Carter of Fulton; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Lois (Hawkins) Carter, and six brothers. His parents were William J. and Myrtie (Bradley) Carter.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial will be in Camp Beauregard Cemetery in Water Valley.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the funeral home.
