Services for George E. Askew Sr., 69, of Paducah will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2012, at Burks Chapel AME Church with the Revs. Charlene Boone and Vivian Snardon officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted.

Mr. Askew died at 9:54 a.m. Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

He was a member of Burks Chapel AME Church, where he served on the Culinary Committee and was a member of the choir. He retired as a supervisor from EJ & E Railroad in Gary, Ind., and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Aicelean Askew; four brothers; three sisters; three aunts; two uncles; and one nephew. His parents were Horace Askew Sr. and Lexie Parchman Askew.

Mr. Askew is survived by three sons, George Askew Jr. of Chicago, Christopher Askew of Portage, Ind., and Michael Bowden of Atlanta; one daughter, Marquita Askew Middleton of Paducah; two grandchildren; five sisters, Ann McPherson, Celia Askew Davenport, Germaine Askew Taylor and Tamara Askew, all of Paducah, and Sarah Askew of Salinas, Calif.; three brothers, Joseph Askew and Donald Askew, both of Paducah, and Joe D. Askew of Gary, Ind.; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the church from noon until the funeral hour on Monday, December 31, 2012.
