BENTON — Alton Powell, 89, of Benton died Sunday, December 23, 2012, at his home.
Mr. Powell was retired from TVA and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Maudene Ham Powell; two daughters, Linda Thompson and Joyce Hill, both of Benton; three sons, Terry Powell and Donald Powell, both of Benton, and Freddy Powell of Reidland; three sisters, Lucille Young of Kuttawa, Willie Mae Taylor of Benton, and Janis Kay Duncan of Murray; two brothers, Everett Powell of Benton and Billy Ray Powell of Puryear, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers. His parents were Robert Lee Powell and Lilley Farley Powell.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Collier Funeral Chapel with the Revs. C.C. Brasher, Mike Littrell and Rodney Wallace officiating. Interment will be at New Zion Cemetery in Benton.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at the funeral home.
