Louis Dale Faughn, 71, born July 16th, 1941, to Louis Matthew and Alice (Kotter) Faughn, passed from this earthly home November 27th, 2012, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Louis and Alice Faughn, and his grandparents Matthew Jackson and Georgia (Kickasola) Faughn and Fred and Emma (Thane) Kottter.

Survivors include his wife, Penny (Hatton) Faughn; their son, Matthew Louis Dale Faughn; and grandson, Cash Worthen. Dale’s children from his first marriage, Sheri (Jason) Fetting and Roger (Elizabeth) Faughn; his four grandchildren, Hayden and Madelyn Faughn of Paducah and Katherine and Travis Fetting of Appleton, Wis. Also, his step-children, David Lee Hausman of Brookport, Ill., Doris (Brian) Wickett of Topeka, Kan., Donna (Todd) Keeling of Brookport, Ill., and Deric Luke Hausman of Metropolis,Ill.; nine step-grandchildren, Timothy Wickett, Dylan Hausman, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Layla, and Connor Keeling, Haylee Salcedo, and Lacie, and Jacob Hausman. Dale is survived by his sister, Janet (Quent) Cassen, his two nieces Julia (Kenny) Seaman and their three children; Rex, Sara, and Kenli, and Jill (Eric) Kost and their daughter Emma. Also surviving is his uncle, George Faughn; and two aunts, Thelma Sisk and Rosalee Kotter; and many cousins.

Dale attended school at Good Hope Grade School and then at Washington Grade School until Unity was built, from which he graduated eighth grade. Then he graduated from Metropolis Community High School in 1959, attended Paducah Junior College from 1959-1960, and received his BSEE from Georgia Tech on June 13th, 1964. He took Grad Courses from Illinois State University and SIU during 1993-94, a Computer Software Course in 1997 at Shawnee College and an Instrumentation Systems and Automation Training Course during 2003.

Dale lived away from Massac County for several years while working different places such as: Square D. Co., in Atlanta, Ga., (designer), 1963; Control Data Corp., in Minneapolis, Minn., 1964-65; Lockheed, in Marietta, Ga., 1965-67; Emerson Electric Co., in St. Louis, 1967-70; and then in 1970-71, at Windsor Locks, in Connecticut.

Dale and his family moved from Connecticut back to his beloved Massac County, Illinois, and his love for farming in 1971. The farm Dale bought was only a few miles from his parent’s farm. Dale sold that farm in 1995 and bought a farm from his aunt Thelma Sisk and a few years later he bought the farm across the road from his cousin Freeda Laxson. When Dale’s parents passed he acquired their farm, which joins the Laxson farm.

Dale began a whole new type of life when he took on a teaching position with Shawnee College, teaching the Electrical Engineering Class. After retiring from Shawnee, Dale taught a few classes at West Kentucky Tech and at Paducah Tech until his health would no longer allow him to teach.

Dale was on the Farm Bureau Board, a member of the Paducah Section of the Instrumentation Systems and Automation, a member of Illinois Association of Electricity, Electronics, Engineers and a director for SIEC-our local electric company.

Dale attended church at Broadway United Methodist in Paducah. He drove the church bus and enjoyed working in The Parent’s Night Out Child Care and The Mother’s Day Out Programs and helped in the church Nursery anytime he was needed. Dale loved helping with the children.

Dale never met a stranger until Alzheimer’s came into his life. He loved being around people, whether it was at church, shopping, at family get togethers, traveling, while out eating, or walking down Broadway on a warm summer Saturday night. He was always talking to those around him and did he ever love to tell jokes. Dale just wanted to make people smile and be happy.

Most of all, Dale loved his family, especially those grandchildren, all 14 of them and they loved him.

Dale will be missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren, but we will always have our memories.

Memorial services for Dale will be held at Mt. Sterling Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Unionville, IL, on Dec. 27th at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
