LEXINGTON — Lois Kay Kaelson Woolley, 90, died December 20, 2012, at her home in Lexington, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Barkley Woolley Jr. (Chuck).
Lois was born September 10, 1922, the daughter of Paul A. Kaelson and Mary Smith Kaelson of Wichita, Kansas, where she graduated from Wichita East High School and the University of Wichita. During her college years, Lois toured the United States as an acrobatic dancer with the Major Bowes variety show.
Lois and Chuck married on October 19, 1946, in Wichita, living in Raleigh, N.C., Chattanooga, Tenn., Memphis, Tenn., and Jackson, Tenn., before settling in Paducah, Ky. Lois taught at Paducah Tilghman High School and assisted with the choreography for the school’s musical theater productions. Lois was an avid gardener and birdwatcher. Lois was a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church, Paducah, Kentucky, until relocating to Lexington in 2009, where she attended St. Raphael Episcopal Church. Lois was a member of the Alpha Tau Sigma sorority.
Lois was also preceded in death by her siblings, Paul A. Kaelson Jr., M.D., Kenneth Kaelson, Virginia K. Burrell, Mary K. Shook Maddox and Donna K. Little.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Paula Jane Sevigny (David), Robert B. Woolley, M.D. (Billie Sue) of Lexington, Ky., and David K. Woolley (Deborah) of Lanesville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Lauren E. Sevigny, Andrew T. Sevigny, Ruth M. Woolley, John R. Woolley, Matthew B. Woolley, David K. Woolley II, Robert H. Woolley, Aubrey Woolley; one great-grandchild, Lily O. Woolley; 15 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.
During her final days, Lois was blessed with the assistance of wonderful caregivers, both physical and spiritual, including the staff of Extra Care and hospice as well as her loving church family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Raphael Episcopal Church, 1891 Parkers Mill Road, Lexington, KY 40504 and Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
A memorial service will be held at St. Raphael’s at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012.
