GILBERTSVILLE — Larry Bennett Schimmel, 64, of Gilbertsville, Ky., passed away at 8:45 a.m., Sunday December 16, 2012, at his home.

He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church where he was involved with the AWANA program. He worked for 32 years for Norfolk Southern Railroad. He served on the District 168 School Board in Sauk Village, Illinois, for 14 years and volunteered at Marcella Kitchen.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Marie Sudds Schimmel of Gilbertsville, Ky.; three sons, Joe Schimmel and wife Jennifer of Olympia Fields, Ill., Jeff Schimmel and wife Tina of Suwanee, Ga., and John Schimmel and wife Melinda of Manhattan, Ill.; two daughters, Janice Phutawon and husband Chad of Winfield, Ind., and Joyce Pratt and husband Michael of Calvert City, Ky.; fifteen grandchildren, Jessica Schimmel, Jenna Schimmel, Chase Davis, Amber Senholtz, Sam Hampton, Bradley Senholtz, Rylee Schimmel, Cody Pratt, Haley Pratt, Dylan Schimmel, Avery Schimmel, Connor Phutawon, Brooklyn Pratt, Ella Phutawon and Carter Phutawon; one great-grandchild, Colin Williams; and one brother-in-law, Milton Keeling of Hickory, Ky.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy A. Keeling and Louise Madden. His parents were Joe S. Schimmel and Clara Watkins Schimmel.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home and Crematory. Bro. Brad White and Bro. Darvin Stom will officiate and burial will follow in the Calvert City Cemetery.
