BARLOW — Betty Cross Harvey, age 85, died Monday morning at 7:35 a.m. at Life Care Center in La Center.
She was born July 1, 1927, in Oscar, Ky., to Robert Clinton and Margaret Holmes Hughes Cross. She lived in Barlow for 52 years where she belonged to the Barlow United Methodist Church. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She volunteered for 20 years with her twin sister, Jean, at the Barlow House. “Where you saw one, you saw the other. Always laughing!” She was a God-loving woman who took food to the shut-ins when she was able. Betty was one of the nicest, sweetest ladies you could ever meet.
She was a bookkeeper by profession for the Barlow Canning Factory, and Boyd Implement and served as City Clerk of Barlow.
She is survived by one son, James Harvey Jr. of Barlow; one daughter, Lee Ann Harvey of Barlow; one brother, Hugh Allen Cross (Hooty) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; her twin sister, Jean Moore of Barlow; two grandchildren, Abby and Joe David Phelps of Barlow, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Harvey Sr. (Snow); her parents, Robert and Margaret Hughes Cross, and two brothers, James and Robert Cross.
Services for Betty Cross Harvey will be Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tony Schaeffer officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5 to 8 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel of La Center. Interment will follow services at Barlow Cemetery in Barlow, Ky.
