METROPOLIS, Ill. — Odress Sommer, 97, of Metropolis, Ill., went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 23rd at Southgate Nursing Home.
He was a member of Weaver Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son, Paul Wayne and his wife Shirley of Metropolis. One granddaughter, Sherry Wessel and her husband Myron Wessel of Metropolis, one great-granddaughter, Macy Wessel of Metropolis, one sister, Pauline Warren of Fulton, Ky., three brothers, Ralph and wife Jeanette, William and Amos, all of Metropolis, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Teckenbrock Sommer, one son, Wilburn Clyde, his parents, Sherman and Rosa Sommer, one brother, Russell and two sisters, Waiva Burnett and Lorraine Burnett.
Odress was a retired carpenter by trade where he was a union member for over 55 years.
He also was a farmer on the same farm for over 70 years.
Visitation begins at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25th with funeral services at 2 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Metropolis. Pastor Shawn Vandergriff will officiate. Burial will follow at the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be given to Weaver Creek Baptist Church, 2748 North Avenue, Metropolis, Illinois 62960.
Pallbearers will be Phillip Sommer, Jerry Burnett, Gary McGinnis, Larry Sommer, Frankie Sommer, and Darrell Burnett.
