BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Mr. George Jones, 85, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, in Belleville, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, with Pastor David Krueger officiating. Burial will follow at the Prospect Cemetery in Pope County, Ill., with a military service conducted.
George was of the Baptist faith, a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in WW II, a member of the American Legion, and an avid golfer who also loved to hunt and fish.
He was the owner of George Jones Garage in Metropolis for many years, then later went to work for and retired from Laidlaw Corp.
George is survived by his daughter, Treila Krueger and husband David of Belleville, Ill.; two sons, George Alan Jones of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Charles Eric Jones and wife Shaun of Hillard, Ohio; four grandchildren, Melissa (Krueger) Plant and husband John of Marion, Ill., Bridget (Krueger) Douglas and husband Nathan of Harrisburg, Ill., Corey Jones of Ocala, Fla., and Marjorie (Jones) Metcalf of West Liberty, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Madeline and Morgan Douglas of Harrisburg, Ill., Kylie, Zach, and Gavin Plant of Marion, Ill., and Cody Jones of West Liberty, Ohio; two sisters, Blanche Watson of Vienna, Ill., and Joyce Choate of Metropolis; one brother, William Jones and wife Barbara of Golconda, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nellie (Faulkner) Jones; his wife, Wanda (Bullock) Jones; two infant sons; one sister, Mary Hughes; and four brothers, Cecil, Clarence, James, and Charlie Jones.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 24, from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.
