METROPOLIS, Ill. — Margaret “Mac” Johnson, 95, of Metropolis, formerly of Ullin, died at 4:45 a.m. Friday, October 12, 2012, at Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Ullin, Ill., the daughter of Richard and Sophia Stodacher Echols. She graduated from Ullin High School in 1931 and was married on Dec. 23, 1936 to Gordon “Porky” Johnson.
To this union 4 children were born. Mac and Porky spent most of their lives together raising their family and operating Porky’s Restaurant in Ullin.
She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Metropolis.
Survivors include her daughter, Yvonne Rath of Metropolis; son, L. E. Johnson of Lafayette, La.; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Gary) Loss, Karla (Marty) Brooker, all of Fairfield, Greg (Suzanne) Johnson of Canton, Mich., Richard Johnson of Eaton, Ohio, Eric (Lia) Douglas of Schaumburg, and Courtney Ledbetter of Metropolis; 8 great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons, Gordon “Buckshot” Johnson and Kay Lewis Johnson; great-grandson, Matthew Vaughn; and two sisters, Eva White and Helen Kennedy.
Visitation for Margaret “Mac” Johnson will be from 10 a.m. -11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Father Chris Mujule officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery.
