METROPOLIS, Ill. — Mr. Phillip Ray Slayden, 76, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at his home.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at Pell Cemetery in Brookport, Ill., with Bro. Rick Miller officiating.
Mr. Slayden was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 40 years, a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mayfield; American Angus Association; the Illinois Angus Association; Shawnee Beef Association; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Evansville; Bay City Lodge No. 771, AF&AM of IL; and an Army veteran.
Phillip is survived by his wife, Leah Ruth (Babb) Slayden of Metropolis, Ill.; two daughters, Sally Ann Slayden-Berry and husband Thomas of Nashville, Tenn., and Sandra Kay Ketchledge and husband James of Conifer, Colo.; three grandchildren, Sarah Ashley Berry of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Garrett Phillip Ketchledge and Rachael Ann Ketchledge, both of Conifer, Colo.; three sisters, his twin, Vida Cole and husband Victor of Symsonia, Sammie McAllister of Kalkaska, Mich., and Janice Bell and husband Charles of Symsonia; and one brother, Larry Slayden and wife Precy of Bossier City, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Raymond and Georgia Lorena (Cope) Slayden, three sisters, Ida Kathryn Miller, Robbie Joe Stathes, and an infant sister, Adeline Slayden.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 28, 2012, at Brookport Funeral Home.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Berry, James Ketchledge, Darrell Miller, Dennis Cole, Bruce Bell and Jason Bell.
