BENTON — Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Carmen Riley of Benton celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Wednesday with a family gathering at their home.

Mr. Riley and the former Ruth Agnes Carter were married Aug. 29, 1942, by the Rev. R.R. Willingham in Palo Pinto, Texas.

Mrs. Riley formerly taught in one-room schools in Maple Springs and Church Grove and later at Brewers. She is the daughter of the late Ivan and May Crawford Carter.

Mr. Riley is a U.S. Army veteran and prisoner-of-war during World War II. He is a retired carpenter and farmer. He is the son of the late Elzie Carmen and Clarencie Ivey Riley.

They have four children: Ronnye Riley, Dennis Riley, Darlene Miller and Craig Riley, all of Benton; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
