GILBERTSVILLE — Bobby Lee Taylor, age 74, of Gilbertsville, passed away at his home Tuesday afternoon. He was born October 15, 1937, to Spurling Carter and Eunice Lindsey Taylor. He had lived in Gilbertsville for the past 10 years but was formerly a resident of Ballard County. He was a member of the La Center First Baptist Church.

Bobby was a lifetime law enforcement officer. He began his early career in Detroit, MI., where he worked as a police officer for four years. After moving back to Kentucky, he served one year as deputy sheriff in Livingston County. The next six years were spent as Chief of Police in LaCenter. From 1967 to 1973 he was a lieutenant Training Officer for the Job Corps. He served as deputy sheriff in Ballard County for four years under Sheriff Jack Stevens. He was then Ballard County sheriff for four years. He then served nine years as jailer at the Ballard County Detention Center. He was also Ballard County Juvenile Officer under Judge Jimmy Don Robinson. He served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Sheriffs Association, was an Honorary Member of the KY Sheriff’s Boys and Girls Ranch, and President of Running Bear Association. He was also a Master of Hazelwood Lodge/Wickliffe Lodge and recently received his 50-year pin. When Bobby retired, he moved to Gilbertsville to fish on KY Lake.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Hill Taylor of Gilbertsville, one son, Robert Lynn Taylor of Graham, KY.; one daughter, Teresa Gail Taylor Draper and husband, Kevin of LaCenter; one brother, W.E. Taylor of Smithland. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Carrie Taylor of Madisonville, Jason Taylor and wife, Sandy of LaCenter, Lisa Moritz and husband, Mike of Portsmouth, OH, Kyle McKean and wife Chelsea of Oscar, and Hannah Draper of LaCenter; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Eskil Taylor, one sister, Ophelia Snyder, and his father- and mother-in-law, Herman and Inez Hill of Smithland.

Visitation for Bobby Taylor will be Friday, August 17, from 5-8 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Funeral Chapel with Bro. Don Pippin and Bro. John Baker officiating. Interment will follow at LaCenter Cemetery in LaCenter, KY. Morrow Funeral Chapel of LaCenter is in charge of arrangements.
