SAN DIEGO, Calif — John Edward Elder, age 49, of San Diego, Calif., passed away on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at his home.

He was born to the late William Stephen and Rosanne Elder on December 15, 1962, in Beacon, NY.

John is survived by his wife, Helen Elder of San Diego; three siblings, Bill and wife Rose Elder, Murray, Thomas and wife Paula Elder of Ste. Genevieve, MO., and Elizabeth and husband Chris Carrico of Metamora, Il. Aunts: Mary Ann and husband David McDaniel, Mayfield, Nancy and husband Steve Glover, Calvert City, Dianne Elder, Fancy Farm, and Mary Elder of Sharpe. Uncles: John and wife Nancy Rowland, New York, Joey and wife Sue Elder, and Jimmy and wife Cynthia Elder, both of Fancy Farm, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William Stephen and Rosanne Rowland Elder; grandparents, John and Ruth Ballard Elder, Anna Lee Courtney Elder, and John Leo and Anna Cummings Rowland. Uncle, Danny Elder and aunts, Linda Mae Elder and Sandra Rowland.

John graduated from Mayfield High School in 1981 and received a BS in Electrical Engineering from Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN. in 1985. He was an electrical engineer for Qualcomm. He was passionate about his family, music, and work. He was very involved in the Mayfield High School band during high school and has been involved in bands that perform at church and other gatherings throughout his life. John was an active member of St. Brigid Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass and burial was conducted on July 16, 2012, in California. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 18, 2012, at the St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm with Father Darrell Venters officiating.

Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service at the church. A reception will follow in the St. Jerome School cafeteria following the service.
