MAYFIELD — Max Joseph Ayers Jr., 61, of Wingo died Thursday at Lourdes hospital in Paducah.

He was of the Baptist faith and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Emily Kay Cox Ayers; two sons, Michael Ayers of Cadiz and Max Joseph Ayers III of Wingo; two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Vanness of Mayfield and Mary Kay Ayers of Coldwater; two brothers, Allen Ayers of Gary, Ind., and Bobby Dornhecker of Kent, Ohio; three sisters, Nora Grant and Margaret Ayers, both of Tennessee, and Diane Ivan of Massillon, Ohio; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister; his father, Max Joseph Ayers Sr.; and his stepfather, Robert Dornhecker.

Services will be held at a later date, with Byrn Funeral Home handling the arrangements.
