WINGO — Francis “Alvis” Byrd, 71, of Wingo died Wednesday at Lourdes hospital.

He was of the Church of Christ faith, was retired from the Kentucky Department of Transportation, and was a farmer, a member of American Legion Post 26 and a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Canter Byrd; one son, Brett Byrd of Water Valley; two daughters, Doreen Wheeler of Fulton and Shanna Sullivan of Hardin; two brothers, Donald Byrd of Cuba and Wayne Byrd of Martin, Tenn.; three sisters, Carolyn Speight of Hazel Park, Mich., June Williams of Fulton and Dottie Brewer of Dresden, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother. His parents were Francis Ambrose and Mary Louise Allen Byrd.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Byrn Funeral Home with Bobby Crittendon officiating. Burial will be in Cuba Community Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
