CALVERT CITY — Archie Thomas “Tommy” Griggs, age 61, of Calvert City, Ky., died Thursday, July 19, 2012. Born July 10, 1951, in Marshall County, Ky., he began his career on the river at age 13 and worked as a riverboat pilot for 44 years. He was employed by Ingram Barge Company.
Mr. Griggs was a member of the Abundant Life Worship Center. He was also a member of the Sharpe Doric Lodge 737 of the Free and Accepted Masons.
He was the son of the late Archie Clifton Griggs and Dorothy Jean (Rose) Griggs of Calvert City.
He is survived by his wife, Marsha (Kitts) Griggs of Calvert City; two daughters, Stephanie Jo Trexler and her husband, Jerry of Benton, and Megan Walters of Paducah; two sons, Randall Thomas Griggs and his wife, Kayla of Calvert City, and Kris Walters of Paducah; one sister, Jane Walsh of Paducah; five brothers, Clifton Edward Griggs of Calvert City, Joe Griggs of Camden, Tenn., Bob Griggs of Benton, John Griggs of Benton and Billy Wayne Griggs of Calvert City; and grandchildren, Corie Griggs of Paducah, Lars Griggs of Calvert City, Hailey Trexler of Benton and Colton Trexler of Benton.
Arrangements are being handled by Collier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 492, Benton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Collier Funeral Home in Benton.
The Rev. Lynn McWherter will officiate.
Interment will follow at Salyers Cemetery in Calvert City.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2012, at Collier Funeral Home.
Masonic services will be held Friday, July 20, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Collier Funeral Home in Benton. The public is invited to attend.
