Edith Lyndel Lockwood, age 88, of Paducah, KY., passed away at noon on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at her home. She was born August 9, 1923, in Arlington, Kentucky, to Robert S. and Myrla Walker Magruder.
Mrs. Lockwood was a graduate of Augusta Tilghman High School and studied business and clerical courses at Draughon’s Business College and Paducah Junior College. She was employed at Illinois Central Railroad for thirty years. She was the co-owner of Paducah Brick and Supply. Raised in Immanuel Baptist Church, she later joined Broadway United Methodist Church, her husband’s home church, where she was an active member in the United Methodist Women’s group. She was a former active member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Junior Women’s Club, Democratic Women’s Club, a scout leader, and served as the secretary for the Illinois Central Hunting and Fishing Club on Kentucky Lake. Mrs. Lockwood was a member of the Sewing Bee luncheon group at Westwood Country Club and was an avid golfer at Westwood and Rolling Hills Country Club. She enjoyed playing in tournaments and spending time with her fellow golfers.
Mrs. Lockwood is survived by her daughter, Janice Foust Tilley and husband, Dr. Don Tilley of Paducah, KY.; grandson, Brett Foust and wife, Elizabeth Petter Foust of Paducah, KY.; granddaughter, Meg Johnson and husband, Dan Johnson of Santa Claus, Indiana; stepgranddaughter, Laura Tilley of Knoxville, Tennessee; and stepgrandson, James Tilley of Paducah, KY.; great-grandchildren, Katy Foust, Jake Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Brennah Grace Johnson. She is also survived by her nieces, Brenda Magruder Fullerton and husband, Carl of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Mary Magruder Brandstetter of Paducah, and nephew, Mack Carneal and wife, Sharon of Tampa, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harold Linn Lockwood; her parents, Robert Simpson Magruder and Myrla Christine Walker Magruder; her brother, James Eldon Magruder; three nephews, Robert Magruder, Michael Magruder, and Michael Lockwood, and a niece, Rebecca Lockwood.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Dr. Joe Beal officiating. There will be no visitation.
