“The

Dictator”

Sasha Baron Cohen takes on the persona of a dictator who risks his life to make sure democracy never comes to his country.

The buzz: I will keep this one simple. Either you like Sasha Baron Cohen’s movies or you don’t. If you liked “Borat” and “Bruno,” take the risk. Do not (and I repeat do not) take your first date, your mother or your grandmother.

Length: 83 minutes

“Battleship”

In the first of the summer action blockbusters (the first non-superhero one, that is) an international fleet of ships discovers an “alien armada” and must do battle to save the world.

The buzz: Everyone is saving the world from something this summer. But “Battleship” is a unique chance to get a look at some new talent. And by new talent, I mean Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, and a non-“John Carter” Taylor Kirsch. They are anchored by Liam Neeson, so I have hope that the eye-popping action won’t be the only good thing about seeing it in theaters.

Showing at: Cinemark

Length: 131 minutes

Show times: 1 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“What

to Expect When You’re

Expecting”

Based on a very popular book, the movie concentrates on five couples having different experiences while going through pregnancy together.

The buzz: I am a fan of ensemble casts, but if you aren’t you should probably stay away. “What to Expect” is one of those movies that you go to see with your girlfriends, though. You may think it is OK to bring your guy because of actors like Chris Rock, but even a few laughs may not make him like it. The good news? Brooklyn Decker is in this one too.

Length: 110 minutes

“Salmon Fishing in Yemen”

One of the world’s top fishery experts is asked by the sheik of Yemen to bring salmon fishing to the country. The task seems unachievable, but the team embarks on the journey anyway.

The buzz: This is one of the limited releases I was hoping would make their way to Paducah. The movie has a lot of heart, and although the title may not scream “blockbuster movie,” it’s worth seeing on the big screen.

Playing at: Maiden Alley Cinema

Length: 107 minutes

Show times: 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday, 4:30 p.m., 7 p.m., and 9 p.m. Saturday, and 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.
