Mexicali burger
slideshow
I love Mexican food, especially when it is fresh and homemade. The Mexicali burger is a take on the taco burger, but my favorite part of it is that it introduces the idea of putting something in your ground beef before you put it on the grill. Seasonings, dressing, Teriyaki sauce mixed into meat, instead of just poured on top, make for interesting flavors and a different take on an old favorite.
Ingredients
1 lb. of lean ground beef
4 slices of cheddar cheese
1 avocado
1 packet of taco seasoning
1 jar of salsa
4 hamburger buns
1. Preheat your grill.
2. In a mixing bowl, sprinkle taco seasoning over ground beef. Knead with your hands and then form four, equal-sized hamburger patties.
3. Put on the grill, cooking for five minutes on either side. Add cheese to the top and let melt for a minute before removing from heat.
4. While your meat is on the grill, slice open the avocado. I use a fork to smear the avocado across the top of a hamburger bun. Add salsa to the top of your patty.
5. Serve.
