Watson wins big

at Augusta

Bubba Watson watched one of the rarest shots in golf Sunday, then hit an incredible shot of his own to win the Masters golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

Watson entered a playoff with Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa and won the championship and the famous green jacket on the second hole of the playoff. Watson’s tee shot on hole No. 10 went far into the pine woods, forcing him to hit a hook shot of sorts that landed 10 feet from the hole. He made par on the hole to win.

Watson, 33, whose full name is Gerry Watson, Jr., is a left-hander who graduated from the University of Georgia is now ranked as the No. 4 golfer in the world, making him the highest-ranked American in golf.

Canaan coming back for another season

Murray State junior point guard Isaiah Canaan announced Thursday that he will be returning for his senior season with the Racers. Canaan, a 6-foot Biloxi, Miss., native, considered entering his name into the NBA draft, but after talking with multiple NBA teams, decided to finish out his career in Murray, as well as finish his degree.

Canaan averaged 19 points a game and led the Racers to a school-best 31-2 record. He was named to six All-America teams and was the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year.

Hudson takes long road to NBA

Former UT Martin standout Lester Hudson signed a second 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. Hudson, a 6-foot-3 guard, received a 10-day contract last week, and in his most recent two games, averaged 24.5 points, five assists, and three rebounds. The Memphis native never graduated high school and only played one year of organized basketball before playing at a junior college in Tennessee.
