Nachos are a weekend favorite. They are a staple in my house, especially for watching sporting events or having that rare evening to enjoy a movie. The problem is, it takes a lot of layering and attention to make them perfect. The perfect nachos can be customized to order, but they are readily shareable and always covered in cheese, making them perfect to show off or just to indulge in comfort food.
1 lb. of lean ground beef
1 package of taco mix
1 bag of Tostitos chips
1 package of shredded cheddar cheese
1 can of olives
1 jar of salsa
n The meat: In a large frying pan, spray non-stick cooking spray. On high heat, pan sear the ground beef until it is brown on either side. Add 3/4 cup of water and the packet of taco mix, then turn on medium heat and let simmer until it thickens. Let sit for 5 minutes to cool.
n The nachos: On a large plate, begin your layers. Start with one layer of Tostitos and your toppings, then cover in meat and cheese and microwave for 40 seconds to melt. Then do another. Continue until you are piled high, microwaving each individual layer.
n Serve: Add salsa, sour cream, or nacho cheese to dip on the side. Additional toppings can include lettuce, tomato, diced onions or jalapenos.
