In the summer, it is almost second nature to light the grill and serve up a few burgers. When the temperatures start to lower, however, making a quick meal isn’t as easy. Broiling a hamburger is the winter way to cook America’s favorite food, but I was surprised to learn how easy making your own french fries were. If you close your eyes and bite into a fry, you can almost feel that summer wind blowing again.

Ingredients

1 lb. lean ground beef

4 slices of American cheese

2 hamburger buns

2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce

2 potatoes

Olive oil

Salt

Pepper

1. The burger: Set the oven to broil. While it is heating, separate the hamburger meat into three individual balls (You can freeze the last one, or make the third for lunch the next day). Place on a cookie sheet with tin foil, flattening out the balls slightly. Plce in the oven for five minutes. After five minutes, flip burger then put back in the oven for an additional five minutes.

2. The fries: Wash the potato and peel if desired. Slice potato. In a large frying pan, put in 1/2 cup of olive oil and put on stove at high heat. Once oil is heated, add potato strips. Constantly stir potatoes into oil, and when they turn golden brown, remove from pan. Place on a plate lined in paper towels as to soak up excess grease. Let cool.

3. The cheese: After 10 minutes in the oven, take burger out. Add one tablespoon of barbecue sauce, then place two slices of cheese on top. Put  back in the oven for two minutes or until cheese is melted, then pull out to cool.

4. Add salt and pepper to fries if desired. Serve.
