There is a certain stigma that goes with the word “documentary.” Whether viewers assume they are boring or just informational. the general consensus is to stay away. This weekend at Maiden Alley Cinema, one documentary will blow that assumption out of the water.

“Senna” is the story of Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34. The film chronicle’s his entrance into the racing world all the way through the crash that ended his life.

ESPN Films had  a hand in creating “Senna,” which says a lot. It used footage from the 1980’s and early 90’s, which just further shows how powerful the story is. The documentary isn’t based around HD graphics and cutting-edge footage, it is based on the story of a man who was dominant in his sport and a visionary in his life.

However, it isn’t the mind-boggling amount of footage that the documentary compiles, or the inside look into Senna’s life that really strikes the viewer, it’s the remarkable story of his life off of the racetrack. Senna was a visionary in the sport, who at the time of his death doing what he loved most: Winning.
