WKCTC semi-annual chorus concert Sunday
The West Kentucky Community & Technical College Community Chorus Pops Concert will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Clemens Fine Arts Center on campus. The concert will showcase the chorus, accompanied by Jim Patton, in classical numbers as well as tunes from “Pippin”, “Oklahoma”, “The Fantastiks”, and “My Fair Lady”.

Market House announces 48th season
The Market House Theatre announced its 48th season this week, which includes seven plays set to show through June of 2012.
The new season will begin Sept. 1 with the Tony Award-winning “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” which follows six children, played by adults, trying to win a spelling bee. Other shows throughout the year include “Charlotte’s Web,” “39 Steps,” “Escanaba in Da Moonlight,” “The Adventures of Nate the Great,” “Getting Sarah Married” and “Hairspray.”

Lower Town Festival lineup released
The Paducah Symphony Orchestra, in conjunction with the Lower Town Arts and Music Festival, released the schedule for its 2011 festival. Among the 40 acts are local bands like Marrakesh Express, Bawn in the Mash, Lew Jetton and 61 South, Dom Wie, The Great Gatsby Jazz Funk Odyssey and a children’s concert by Dennis Scott.
The two-day festival — Mary 20-22 — will feature three stages. Music will be performed from 5-10 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, a full schedule of activities and ticket prices, visit www.lowertownamf.com.
Metropolis choral recital features classics
Vocal students of Tony Whitfield will present a recital of sacred music at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 6 p.m. May 15. The recital will include works of several composers, including Felix Mendelson and George Frederich Handel. Southern Illinois students in this recital include Tabatha Dummitt of Joppa and Kristin Foster of Metropolis.
St. Paul Lutheran Church is at sixth and Ferry in Metropolis, Ill. The recital is free and open to the public.
PSO holding online auction for violins
The Paducah Symphony Orchestra is holding an online auction through 5 p.m. Sunday. As a subsection of the auction, the orchestra has collaborated with six local artists for a Painted Violin Project (see more information below). The painted violins are artwork given as gifts for auction to benefit the PSO and are for sale on the online auction. The project chairwoman is PSO board member Petcoff.
