Graves' 3rd-inning rally settles district title

Staff report

Graves County won the Third District championship behind a six-run, third-inning offensive outburst.

Junior Austin Jones started with a double, and a Calyton Carrico sacrifice bunt on which Ballard Memorial couldn't record an out put runners on first and third with nobody out. Tyler Harlow plated Jones for the first run.

Justin Hayden later doubled with the bases loaded to score two, and Peyton Puckett's RBI triple brought Hayden home. 

Hayden improved to 9-0 by striking out five and allowing no walks.

Hickman 14, Fulton Co. 4 - At Bardwell, Alec Spillman was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two RBIs as Hickman County scored seven runs in the fifth to stop Fulton County during the semifinals of the First District baseball tournament Monday. Steven Allen also doubled twice while Falcon teammate Billy Speed was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

Softball

Marshall County trailed early but was sparked by a second-inning solo home run from Toni Fehrenbacher and a three-run, fourth-inning home run from Abby Fiessinger to win the Fourth District softball championship on Monday.

Brianna Gibbs earned the win, and Fehrenbacher entered in the fourth to earn the save.

Calloway County eliminated Murray earlier in the day.

Carlisle 8, Fulton City 3 - At Bardwell, down 2-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, Carlisle County scored three runs that frame and added four more in the sixth to defeat Fulton City in a First District softball semifinal Monday. Maddie Martin had three hits and Brittany Morris drove in two runs for the Comets.

Livingston 7, Lyon 0 - At Marion, Livingston Central broke open a close game with Lyon County by scoring six runs in the fifth to win the First District softball championship. Hannah Leidecker smacked her second home run in as many nights, a two-run shot in that critical fifth. Leidecker, Jennifer Head and both Tiffany and Tabby Padon each had two hits for the Cardinals. with each Padon driving in one run.
