Tilghman takes two losses in tournament

Staff report

At Louisville, after defeating Elizabethtown 6-3 Friday night, Paducah Tilghman lost twice Saturday at the Louisville Invitational. First, St. Xavier exploded for five runs in the third inning of a 9-1 win. Matt Moore was 2-for-3 with the only RBI for the Tornado while Andrew McCormick doubled twice for the Tigers. Tilghman fared worse in its second game; an 11-0 loss to DuPont Manual. Miles Butler had a double while Nick Shumaker had a triple for the Tornado. Jarett Harness was 4-for-4 with three RBI for the Crimsons.

At Louisville, Christian Fellowship swept a softball doubleheader with Portland Christian by wide margins. In the first game, CFS scored 10 runs in the second en route to a 17-0 win in four innings. Abigail Cima drove in three runs with a double and a triple while Abby Fletcher was 2-for-4 with five RBI. The nightcap was just slightly closer with CFS winning 12-1 in five frames. Maddie Ortt was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI while Emily Bridges was 2-for-2 with three RBI, including a solo homer in the third.

Softball

 At Louisville, McCracken County followed two five-inning wins with a seventh-inning comeback to win three games at the Vernon Bibb Classic on Saturday.

First, Jenny Chapman walked just one batter in the first and struck out seven Sacred Heart batters while tossing a no-hitter in a 10-0 triumph. Kelsee Henson had three hits for the Mustangs while Rachel Ridolfi drove in three runs. In its second game, McCracken scored 10 runs in the first inning for a 13-0 triumph over South Laurel. Tori Humphrey doubled twice for the Mustangs and Lexie Baer had two RBI.

The finale had McCracken in trouble early and often against Christian Academy-Louisville. Jessica Powell put the Centurions up 6-5 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Ridolfi coompleted the Mustang comeback with a bases-clearing, three-RBI double in the seventh for the 9-6 win. Ridolfi finished that game 2-for-3 with four RBI while Bailey Vick was 3-for-3 with two RBI. Audrey Dodd was the winning pitcher in the final two games.

Lady Patriot Tournament - At Metropolis, Ill., Paducah Tilghman faced two teams from Illinois at the Lady Patriot Invitational on Saturday and won both games by decisive margins.

The Tornado took on Massac County first and won 10-2. Karlee Humphrey homered and pitched a complete game for Tilghman. Keiler Belt, Peyton Morgan and Shaelyn Tyler each had two hits and two RBI for Paducah.

In the nightcap, the Tornado scored early and often to stop Herrin 9-3. Chantell Driver went 2-for-3 for Tilghman.

Track

Aleja Grant covered the long distances and Lenny Grace cleared the hurdles as Paducah Tilghman's biggest winners during the Paducah Tilghman Track Invitational at McRight Field on Saturday.

As she has done at many prior meets, Grant swept the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs for the Lady Tornado while Grace won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles for the boys. Tre Coleman won the shot put and Jalon Chism took the discus for the Tornado.

In the girls' sprints, TiaVion Patterson from Webster County won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes while Tilghman's Asia Flemmons claimed the 400. Also winning for the Tilghman girls were Arius Brown in the 300 hurdles, DeTysha Laster in the triple jump and Thailandria Daniels in the discus. Tilghman also won boys' 400 and 800 relays plus girls' 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays.

Tilghman won the girls' team title with 169 points, followed by McCracken County with 115 and Warren Central with 84. Evansville (Ind.) Harrison won the boys' team title with 149 points, followed by Tilghman with 123 and McCracken County with 91.
