Mustangs' softball wins twice

At Fairhope, Ala., McCracken County won two softball games Wednesday, beating Baker (Ala.) 6-5 and then topping Louisville Assumption 11-1 in five innings.

In the first game against Baker, the Lady Mustangs (14-3), the top-ranked team in the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association weekly poll, needed three runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull off the victory.

Baker owned a 5-0 lead after scoring five runs in the top of the sixth.

The inning started with Tori Humphrey's leadoff walk, Hannah Ridolfi singled, Rachel Ridolfi walked, Kalli Harris struck out and then Maddie Wooten singled and scored Humphrey for the first run.

Taylor Poindexter was then hit by a pitch and scored pinch runner Lauren Cartwright (Hannah) to tie the game at 5-all.

Kaylyn Telfair won it for McCracken County when she laid down a pinch-hit squeeze bunt and that scored Lakyn Nesby.

Keely Barnes went 2 for 4, Kionna Waldon went 1 for 2 and Maddie Wooten went 2 for 3 with three RBI for McCracken County.

In the 11-1, five-inning win over Louisville Assumption, the Lady Mustangs scored five runs in the top of the third and six in the top of the fourth.

For the Lady Mustangs, Bailey Vick finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, Barnes went 3 for 4 with three RBI and Cartwright, Poindexter and Hannah Jones all went 1 for 1 with two RBI.

Mt. Tabor, N.C. 4, Tilghman 2, Tilghman 6, Fordham Prep 2 - At Myrtle Beach, S. C., Paducah split two games at the Cal Ripken Experience on Wednesday.

In their first game Nick Shumaker took the loss as the Tornado fell to Mt. Tabor High School from Winston-Salem, N. C. 4-2.

Paducah Tilghman topped Fordham Prep from the Bronx in their second game 6-2. The Tornado scored in the top of the first inning when Shumaker walked and Nathan Hawkins brought him home with an RBI single.

Tilghman added to its lead by scoring four in the third inning. Jeremiah White started the fourth inning bulge with a single that scored Shumaker and Miles Butler.

Jacob Underhill picked up his fourth win against no losses.

Tilghman stands at 10-2 after the split.
