Tilghman blanks Tigers; Ballard cruises

Staff report

At Murray, after opening the season with a pair of blowouts, Paducah Tilghman got a closer game from Murray but still emerged with a 5-0 shutout in Saturday's high school baseball.

The Tornado scored four runs in the fourth thanks to two errors and two more walked in. Jacob Underhill pitched a solid game for Tilghman, striking out five while allowing just three hits and two walks over six innings.

Ballard 10, S. Fulton 1 - At Clinton, Ballard Memorial won the Tom Hulsey Memorial Tournament by winning all three of its games over Friday and Saturday. Lee Chandler belted a two-run homer and Cody Collier had three hits as the Bombers took care of South Fulton (Tenn.) on Saturday.

Gavin Williams and Evan Lawrence combined to strike out 10 Red Devils.

In Friday's action, Ballard defeated Lake County (Tenn.) 13-7 and Futon County 11-1.

St. Mary-Ballard DH - At La Center, Ballard Memorial opened its softball season with a thud as St. Mary swept the doubleheader. In the first game, Lexi Carter and Lakin Largent both drove in three runs in the Vikings' 15-1 victory over the Bombers. Rachel Denkins struck out seven for the win.

In the nightcap, Largent also pitched impressively with nine strikeouts and one walk in an 11-1 no-hitter. Largent and Alex Durbin both had three hits for St. Mary with Durbin driving home two scores.

Tilghman at Trigg Invitational - At Cadiz, Paducah Tilghman opened its softball season by taking three games in a row to win the Trigg County Invitational.

First, the Tornado overcame a five-run third from Caldwell County for the 10-8 victory. Shaelyn Tyler was 4 for 4 with six RBI for Tilghman. Next, Anna Youngblood and Mallory Myers each struck out three Fort Campbell batters as they combined for a no-hitter in a 19-0, three-inning rout. Caroline Robertson and Stephanie Sexton both went 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Tornado. Finally, Myers singled in each of her four plate appearances and stole six bases in the 8-1, tournament-clinching win over Trigg County. Emily Crowe was 2 for 3 with a double for the Wildcats.
