Lady Cardinals win third consecutive district title

Staff report 

At Marion, Livingston Central rallied to avenge two regular-season losses to Lyon County and win their third consecutive Fifth District tournament girls championship Thursday with a 57-50 victory.

Hailee Lampley scored 25 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to lead the Lady Cardinals, going 9 for 10 from the line. Jennifer Head drained three bombs from behind the arc and scored 13 for Livingston Central, which entered the postseason losing 10 of its last 11 regular-season games.

Becca Somers, Jill P'Poole and Barrett Blackburn each scored 12 for the Lady Lyons.

Carlisle 59, Fulton City 43 - At Fulton, Carlisle County used a 21-10 second quarter advantage to take control of the First District championship game against Fulton City.

The Lady Comets were led by Heaven Hooper's 25 points; Laken Sams netted 13. Carlisle County swept the First District during the regular season and won the tournament.

Markesha Dickerson led the Lady Bulldogs with 16. Fulton City will play in the First Region tournament next week for the first time since 2004.

Seventh District

Madisonville 57, Caldwell 44 - At Madisonville, Madisonville-North Hopkins won its fifth consecutive Seventh District boys basketball championship by outlasting Caldwell County. The Maroon first pulled away with an 11-5 run through the third quarter and clinched it with 20-14 in the fourth.

With many of Madisonville's starters in foul trouble, Jaylen Mason picked up the slack and led the way with 17 points. Elijah Sindelar also scored 17 points to top the Tigers while teammate Dee Cain was close behind with 16.

Caldwell 63, Madisonville 46 - At Madisonville, After dropping both regular-season meetings, Caldwell County rebounded in a big way against Madisonville-North Hopkins to win the Seventh District girls basketball championship Thursday night.

Tori Loomis led the Lady Tigers' rampage with 15 points while McKenzie Fraliex and Kaitlyn Gilkey each finished with 14 points and LeLe Rogers added 12. Punkin McNairy scored 11 points to top the Lady Maroon, who turned the ball over 10 times in the first quarter as Caldwell built a 16-8 lead. The Lady Tigers then scored the first seven points of the second quarter during a 23-7 that put the game out of Madisonville's reach.
