Pairings drawn for Sweet 16 championships

The pairings for the 2014 girls and boys basketball Sweet Sixteen were determined Monday afternoon at WKYT-TV' in Lexington.

On the girls side, the First Region champion will be pitted against the 14th Region winner at noon March 13. The Second Region champion will meet the top team from the 16th Region on March 12, also at noon.

The Sweet 16 will be held March 12-16 at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.

The winner of the First Region-14th Region game will play the winner of the 10th Region-13th Region game at 6:30 p.m. March 14. The Second Region-16th Region victor will take on the 12th Region-15th Region winner at noon March 14.

The state semifinals are slated for 6:30 and 8 p.m. on March 15, with the championship game at 2 p.m. March 16.

For the boys, the champion from the First Region takes on the 12th Region champion at 11 a.m. March 20. The winner of the Second Region goes up against the Eighth Region champion at 11 a.m. March 19.

The boys Sweet 16 takes place March 19-23 at Rupp Arena in Lexington.

The winner of the First Region-12th Region game moves on to play the winner of the Fourth Region-14th Region game at 5:30 p.m. March 21. The Second Region-Eighth Region winner will face the Third Region-Seventh Region at 11 a.m. on March 21.

The semifinals' tentative start times are 5:30 and 8 p.m. on March 22. The championship game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. March 23. The First/Second Region team would play in the 5:30 game if either advanced to it.
