The 31st annual Superman Classic begins Monday at Massac County High School in Metropolis, Ill., with three teams from Kentucky, four from Illinois and one from Missouri set to compete in the double-elimination event.
"It's a big event for our school, and it's something our community really enjoys," Massac County athletic director Parker Windhorst said.
"Our tournament has as strong of a field that you can put together this time of year. It's a big week in Illinois for tournaments with several playing and we're lucky enough to be able to pull from different areas and have teams not only from Illinois, but from Kentucky and Missouri this year.
"That allows us to keep our talent pool alive. This time of year, teams want to play other quality teams to prepare them for the postseason and we feel like we offer that opportunity to the other seven teams that come here."
Along with host Massac County, the other seven teams participating are Paducah Tilghman, Calloway County and Union County from Kentucky, Carbondale, Century and Meridian from Illinois, and Charleston from Missouri.
First-round games start Monday night at 6:15 and again at 7:45.
