MURRAY - After squandering a five-point lead in the closing minutes of regulation, Murray made just enough free throws to defeat Ballard Memorial 72-68 in overtime in boys basketball action Thursday night.
James Boone topped the Tigers with 16 points. He made two free throws with 1:11 to go in the fourth for a 60-55 lead. The Bombers quickly began their rally when Zach McAfee sank the last of his three 3-pointers to cut the lead to two. He would finish with 13 points.
As Murray moved the ball slowly in an attempt to consume some clock, Keagan Cooper made the steal and rushed the other way for the tying layup. He led all Bombers with 16 points.
Free throws proved key in the extra frame. Murray was 8-for-11 from the foul line while Ballard went 4-for-6. Tandyn Sheppard scored half of the Tigers' 12 overtime points as he finished with 10 points. Cooper scored six points in overtime for the Bombers, who got to within one point with 18 seconds left before Murray hit three of its final four free throws to seal it.
Ethan Clark also had a big game for the Tigers with 15 points, while teammate Dylan Boone finished with 12. Dre Bledsoe (12 points) and Clay Newton (10) also came up big for Ballard.
