Husband, wife face assault charges Two Mayfield residents face a charge of assault after one was stabbed in a domestic dispute Sunday, Mayfield police said in a news release. About midnight, officers and detectives were sent to the 400 block of West Walnut Street, where they found Barry Hendley leaning against the back of the home, officers said. Hendley had been stabbed in his right upper body, according to the report. He was taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and released. Police said they received a call that night from Hendley's wife, Yolanda Hendley, who said she had been assaulted by her husband at their residence at Garden Apartments. Detectives investigated and found several weapons, police said. Barry Hendley faces charges of assault (domestic violence), violation of conditions of release, alcohol intoxication in a public place and disorderly conduct. Yolanda Hendley faces a charge of assault. Both were taken to the Graves County Jail. -- Staff report Man admits defrauding Social Security A Caldwell County resident pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Paducah to failing to report to the Social Security Administration his ability to work and fraudulently receiving disability and Medicaid benefits for 20 years. In a news release, David Hale, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, said Travis Vickery, 44, falsely represented he was disabled from September 1991 to October 2011 and received benefits and care to which he was not entitled. USDA said the combined loss from Social Security and Medicaid exceeded $97,000. Vickery faces up to 15 years in prison, a fine of $500,000 plus restitution, and up to three years supervised release. -- Staff report State hearing to cover widening of Friendship A public meeting for discussing a study of the widening of North Friendship Road will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Lone Oak Elementary School. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a news release that no construction is planned at this time and that officials will seek public input and answer questions. Informational exhibits will be held displayed as well. The cabinet will begin a study to identify transportation needs and improvement alternatives along Ky. 1286/North Friendship Road and Ky. 998/Olivet Church Road from U.S. 45 to U.S. 60, District 1 Chief Engineer Jim LeFevre said. Oral and written comments will be accepted at the meeting with additional written comments accepted for another 15 days at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Department of Highways, 5501 KY Dam Road, Paducah, KY 42003. All comments will be compiled and available to the public via open records request. KYTC said anyone with disabilities requiring special assistance to attend can call Mike McGregor at 270-898-2431 by Thursday. -- Staff report Cumberland River bridge forum coming on June 20 A public meeting will be held to discuss possible replacement of the U.S. 60 Cumberland River bridge from 4-7 p.m. June 20 at the University of Kentucky Agriculture Extension Office in Smithland. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said in a news release that officials will answer questions and take comments. The agency said no construction is planned at this time but it is examining options for repairing or replacing the bridge. Written comments will be received at the meeting, and for a period of 15 days afterward. The oral and written comments will be compiled and made available to the public through an open record request. The bridge opened in 1931. The cabinet said about 5,500 vehicles cross it daily. -- Staff report Toddler burned after ingesting meth ingredient HARTFORD -- Authorities say a 2-year-old western Kentucky girl is in critical condition at a Louisville hospital after ingesting an ingredient used to make methamphetamine. The Ohio County sheriff's office says the girl suffered chemical burns to her lips, mouth, tongue and esophagus. Police say the mother of the child, Racheal Arroyo, and her boyfriend, Jared McStoots, brought her to a local hospital Saturday and stated they did not know what she had ingested. That night she was airlifted to Kosair Hospital in Louisville. Police determined that the child had ingested sulfuric acid drain opener. Arroyo and McStoots were arrested and charged with controlled substance endangerment to a child and wanton endangerment. Kentucky State Police found evidence of meth being manufactured at the home. -- Associated Press
