Trial date set in Yanez DUI-death case
Seventeen-year-old Edgar Yanez (middle) stands with his attorneys (from left) Andrew Coiner and Carlos Moran in McCracken Circuit Court on Monday. Yanez is charged with murder, first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief and first-offense DUI stemming from a fatal June 20 crash that killed 34-year-old Paducah Sun delivery driver Ezra Moffett. Police say Yanez was impaired and behind the wheel of the Hummer H2 that hit Moffett's van at the intersection of Blandville and Mayfield-Metropolis roads. Coiner said he is awaiting DNA evidence, which prompted Circuit Judge Tim Kaltenbach to continue Yanez's pre-trial hearing on Tuesday. Kaltenbach set his next pre-trial for March 25 and a trial for Oct. 28-31.
