The death of a local high school alumnus from breast cancer moved students toward raising donations for the Lourdes hospital Women’s Center.
St. Mary High School donated $300 to the women’s center in memory of 1993 graduate Amy McMinn Cope on Dec. 27.
Cope, an employee of Lourdes Mercy Medical Associates in the office of Dr. Daniel Howard and Dr. Edwin Grogan, died from breast cancer on Nov. 30 after battling the malignancy for two years.
Seventh-graders Mackenzie O’Nan and Zachary Jenkins organized a Jeans Day fundraiser at their school and received 100 percent participation from their classmates.
“We are very proud of our students,” said Dr. Angela Farmer. “They continually look for opportunities to help others, especially when it is someone in our extended family.”
