Donated money helps families in crisis in the Paducah and McCracken County area.
More than 700 runners from 17 states helped one local half-marathon fund run raise record amounts in donations for assisting families in need.
In its second year, the Lourdes’ Paducah Iron Mom Half-Marathon helped raise $25,000 for the local Family Service Society, an increase of 25 percent from 2011. The collected money aids the non-profit agency in its goals of providing Paducah and McCracken County residents with food, clothing, medications, utilities and dental resources in times of crisis.
Pat Truitt, executive director of Family Service Society, stated, “We are grateful to Lourdes, the members of the Iron Mom Committee and all of our community partners for organizing such a fantastic event. In challenging economic times, more families seek our services for support. We are thankful to be able to use the funds from this event to meet their needs.”
